I started calling movers today. What an experience. We have decided to rent a Uhaul and hire movers on both ends to help load and unload.
To hire a moving company to load/drive/unload was going to cost us $7000 or $10000.
Do you think that we can fit all of our stuff in a 26' Uhaul ($1438)? My hubby certainly thinks that it should not be a problem. I figured out mileage and gas which is going to figure out to about $650 assuming gas is about $3.50/gallon. I personally feel this is why the professionals need to be hired. They must work their "puzzle" skills with our stuff onto the truck in such a way to fit it all in one. I may rent a 6' x 12' trailer also. That is another $879. That is $879 FOR A TRAILER!!
To hire 2 men to help the truck varies from $55/hr to $97 hr. Why would it vary? Are the cheaper ones not as good? I don't quite know what to think.
I think it will cost us about $3297. That is about a $4000 savings. WOO HOO.
I am hoping to start updating on a more frequent basis.......good luck with that~~ :)

DH leaves tomorrow
DH leaves tomorrow for TX. He will start the new job on Monday. The kids and I will stay here and wait until we hear about the house we put an offer in on. If we hear in the next two weeks then I will see DH at closing. If we don't I plan on heading down there in about 14 days to go house hunting again.
DS is doing very well in school. His Pre-Algebra is moving right along. He is doing Analytical Grammar for his grammar program and as much as he fusses when I tell him it is grammar time he is cruising right along. We are currently reading MVP by Douglas Evans. It is a great story about a boy on an adventure around the world in less than 40 days. There are wonderful references to geography and history. It is peeking DS's interests......shhhh don't tell him he is learning. We will start our Geography course on Monday. I am excited to start that as I was lucky enought to hear Cindy Wiggers speak from www.geomatters.com last April and bought her program. She is a fabulous geography source. DS will also be assigned a writing project next week. I think we will be having him write a poem. I will hopefully post here when it is completed.
I am contemplating purchasing Sonlight curriculum for us. I need the Instuctor's Guide. I have all the History stuff here I just don't seem to be able to put it together for lessons. I think it will be money well spent plus, it will help me when it comes to deciding whether or not I will use it when I pull dd home.
I am in book 3 of the Stephenie Meyer's books. I can't put them down. I will probably finish Eclipse tonight and move on to Breaking Dawn tomorrow. The books in my opinion will never be classics but they are fun reads and I have to tell you...if there is anyone out there that doesn't wish that Edward was "their man" they are just PLAIN INSANE.
I hope to write more frequently now.....to keep everyone posted. I also hope to post pics and such later on......I have to figure out how to do that......
Until next time....

More Interviews.....school is almost in
DH and I returned on Wednesday from a rural area in IL. He had an interview. We were/are pretty excited about the opportunity. He once again really like the people he would be working with. He was not the happiest about the cleanliness of the facility but said he could truly work past it because it wasn't the biggest factor at all. After leaving the area I researched a housing site online and found 4....yes you heard me correctly 4 homes that are available in the area with 4 BR, 2 BA.....None would work for us due to locations and such. But, we have decided we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
DH leaves on Sunday for 3 interviews in Houston. Two are viable options the other one is more of a "back up plan" type job. He wants to be back in TX. And if I honestly think about it I wouldn't mind being in warmer weather. After 34 years of MI weather I am ready for a change...I do feel like my kids may be missing a lot of things not being in the MI weather but what can you do when a job must be found and there is nothing in the this dying state.......
DS12 will start school next week.....very lightly.....he will be reading Carry On Mr. Bowditch. The following week he will start full time. DD6 will be starting PS on the Tuesday after Labor Day. We are excited for her and she is ready to go be with other children. She truly does thrive there. It is amazing to me that my children can be so different. That an environment that crippled my son can truly help my daughter flourish...such is life.

Changes ahead!!!
I have been contemplating starting a blog for a while.
With the inevitable family transplant that is about to happen due to restructuring at DHs work now is the perfect time.
I will post to keep family and friends posted of everything happening and to hopefully avoid the "I feel so out of the loop" feeling we have all experienced when we feel like we are the last to know something.
I will post about the kids, homeschooling, our gluten free journey, DHs job hunt, adjusting to our new community (wherever that may end up), etc.
I will start with DH is in South TX interviewing tomorrow. He will return Friday. He will then leave again next Friday for another interview but this time it will be in the town near his parents.
Hence, the title of my blog. It does not look like anything is going to pan out locally and all of the recruiters that are helping him find a new job/career tend to find everything in the South.
I am nervous about all of the change that will happen with my family but in the end I know it will be okay and we will all be better people because of it. I have to be honest though...I am not looking forward to having to teach DS(12) TX state history since I will be learning it with him and history is just not my thing.
